What material should a manhole cover be made of?
The use of stainless steel is particularly recommended in connection with drinking or waste water due to its outstanding corrosion-resistant and hygienic properties. Waste water also often contains aggressive chemical substances that can quickly lead to corrosion. Depending on the type of stainless steel, stainless steel offers high resistance to corrosion compared to concrete, cast iron or steel. Stainless steel is robust and resistant to mechanical stress and many environmental influences.
How well my manhole cover must seal?
A manhole cover should be reliably pressure-tight against daytime water, i.e. natural precipitation such as rainwater, to ensure a dry manhole. In addition to rain protection, increased reliability is also available in the form of flood protection. This is usually guaranteed up to one or even five metres of water column and is indispensable in certain areas of application.
How do I protect my shaft from unauthorised access?
Especially in the recent past, the need for security has increased significantly and is reflected in almost all situations in life. However, this is particularly evident where it is relatively easy to reach a large number of people. A simple example of this is the drinking water supply. It is not uncommon for the equipment in this sensitive area to be in a dilapidated state. In order to uncover possible weak points here, attempts to break into public facilities, including drinking water supply buildings, are repeatedly simulated.

What do I need to consider when entering the shaft?
Don't forget: The operator is responsible for the safety of the shaft structures!
So keep an eye on the legal regulations for your project and think about certified, safe access options for your shaft. A labelled access aid is prescribed by the BVG (Berufsgenossenschaftliche Vorschriften; accident prevention regulations of the German employers' liability insurance associations). The products used must comply with the type approval.
